We look forward to welcoming LCDR John Z. Li, USN, as our Guest Speaker September 12th.  Currently, he serves as a National Security Affairs Fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University.  Li will discuss his fellowship focus area exploring platforms, capabilities, and concepts to counter the significant Anti-Access/Area Denial (A2/AD) advantages China has in the First Island Chain.  He will also share his experience with the Navy’s innovative Blue/Gold Crew Model for Littoral Combat Ships (LCS).  The Blue/Gold crew model facilitated longer on station time for the LCS class ships in the critical Indo-Pacific Theater (14-18 months vs 6-9 months), but places significant staffing pressure due to the need to staff each ship with two crews.  As a result, the Navy is looking to consolidate the Blue/Gold crew to a single, but larger crew to provide enough Sailors to meet mission requirements on deployment.
